Florida Disaster Animal Response and Transport (Formerly Sumter Disaster Animal Response Team) was founded in 1998. Since then, we have assisted NUMEROUS national, international and local organizations.
Our main focus is to safely and professionally move animals to safety utilizing our own equipment and drivers. We have transported dogs from puppy mills, and dog fighting raids. We have been there for cats involved in hoarding cases. We have moves several species of animals from natural disaster stricken areas. And, we have helped MANY animal shelters with moving animals either to increase chances of adoption or ahead of an imminent danger, such as a hurricane.
We have a LARGE inventory of supplies that are rented or loaned to organizations to assist them with various types of training or real life projects. This program helps these organizations to be able to have access to items that they may have a temporary need for, without the financial commitment of purchasing them.
We have also partnered with Florida State Animal Response Coalition in order to have access to a very large pool of well-trained animal sheltering volunteers that can respond in a time of need.
The mission of Florida DART is to work collaboratively with government agencies, non-profit organizations and corporations by providing aid, support, mitigation assistance, logistics and transportation for an effective and seamless animal response prior to, during and after a disaster, emergency, or other time of need.
